Pansy

It is from the violet family. Originally a wild plant, the hybrids of the pansy were first produced in Europe, and later the plant spread throughout the world due to its showy flowers. Although it is actually a perennial sensitive herbaceous plant, its most productive period is the first year it is grown from seed. Therefore, the pansy plant, which is grown as an annual or at most biennial, can grow up to 20 cm.

Its green trunk branches from its base. These branches are three-sided and hollow. Its oval-shaped, green leaves that taper towards the tip are petiolate, hairless and have toothed edges in the shape of a comb shell. Its flowers, which bloom from spring through summer and can be 5-10 cm wide, have 5 petals, one facing up and four facing down, decorated with lines and spots. The flowers of the cultivated pansy, which is especially very colorful, bloom in all shades of yellow, orange, red, scarlet and blue. Its ripe fruit is in the form of capsules that carry its powdery seeds. The plant reproduces with its seeds.

Chemical Composition: The aboveground parts and roots contain rutin glycoside, anthocyanin glycoside vilonin was found in the flowers, the aboveground parts contain etheric oil, b-carotene, violaxanthin, zeoxanthin, flavoxanthin, vitamin C, saponins, calcium and magnesium salts, tannins, helmeli substance, salicyl and wine acid, etc. Violametin alkaloid was found in the roots.

In Which Diseases Is It Used: The plant has an expectorant, disinfectant, diuretic, sudorific, sedative, and slimming effect. It accelerates secretion in the bronchial glands, and is still used as a medicine for hysteria, urinary tract diseases, rheumatism, water retention in the body, skin pain (eczema, acne), impetigo and dry coughs.

In folk medicine it is used for skin acne, whooping cough, sand and stones in the bladder and kidneys, atherosclerosis, cystic acne etc.

Externally, it is used as a bath and compress for itching, purulent skin acne, rickets, and cystic wounds; for insomnia and headache, it is washed with boiled water; and its fresh juice is used against wounds and swellings.

Usage: 2 tablespoons of the plant are boiled with 400 grams of boiling water, left for 2 hours. Take a tea glass before meals 4 times a day.

In our folk medicine, fragrant violet (viola adorata I.) is also used. This violet is found in bushes, forests and all over the country. It blooms in March and April. Its aboveground parts are collected at the time of flowering or its roots are removed after its seeds have matured. It contains the same substances and is used for diseases just like pansies.

1. It is a diuretic. It has a healing effect in cystitis and in cases of frequent and painful urination.

2. It cleanses the blood. It is useful in healing skin problems such as eczema and acne.

3. It has expectorant, antitussive and healing effects in whooping cough and acute bronchitis.

To provide these effects, the branches, leaves, flower stalks and flowers are collected as long as the plant is in bloom. They are dried carefully in a dry place. Take 1 teaspoon of the dried mixture, pour 1 glass of boiling water over it and let it brew for 10-15 minutes, and drink one glass of the infusion three times a day.
