Clove Oil

Clove Oil is obtained by extraction from Clove Buds.

It is from the myrtle family. Since it grows in a climate dominated by rainy hot months, it is evergreen. The clove tree is 10-20 meters tall. Its leaves are elliptical or broadly lanceolate, with smooth edges, leathery, arranged opposite each other and have a 2-3cm long stem. Its flowers are 10-15 together in a bunch at the end of the stem, whitish pink or whitish yellow.

Its homeland is Indonesia, and today it is mostly grown in Zanzibar in the east of the African continent and other islands in the Indian Ocean. In Turkey, it is grown only in greenhouses or as an ornamental plant in homes.

Clove buds contain a volatile oil containing hydrocarbons called eugenol, salicylic acid and caryophylline.
