Kuşotu
(Diğer adları: Serçedili, Serçeotu) Karanfilgiller familyasındandır. Anayurdu bilinmemekte, ancak Anadolu’da yol kenarları, duvar dipleri ve bahçelerde yaygın olarak yetişmektedir. 10-30 cm. kadar boylanabilen, biryıllık otsu bitkidir. Çok dallı, gevrek yapılı, açık kahverengi gövdesinin bir tarafı tüylü olur.
Its oval-shaped, fleshy and juicy leaves are stemless and arranged opposite each other on the stem. Its small reddish-white flowers, which bloom continuously from early spring to early winter, are star-shaped. Chickweed, which is not picky about location and grows in all types of soil as long as it is moist, reproduces by the seeds it sheds.
The above-ground parts of the plant contain organic acids, potassium salts, phosphorus and vitamin C. Chickweed, sold in markets in our country, is delicious enough to be eaten raw. For this reason, it is added to salads, added to pastry mixture or cooked as a vegetable.
Use in folk medicine
1. İdrar söktürücüdür. Böbreklerin çalışmasını hızlandırır.
2. Balgam söktürücü etkisi de vardır.
3. Müshildir, pekliği giderir.
4. Romatizma yangılarını ve ağrılarını hafifletir.
Bu etkileri sağlamak üzere, kuşotunun tüm topraküstü bölümleri bitki yeşil olduğu sürece toplanır ve gölgelik yerde kurutulur. Kurutulmuş bitkiden 2 tatlı kaşığı alıp üzerine 1 bardak kaynar su konularak 5 dakika süreyle demlendirilir. Böylece elde edilen infüzyon, günde üç kez birer bardak olarak içilir.

2. Kaşındırıcı ve rahatsız edici sedef hastalığı ve egzamada rahatlatıcıdır.
3. Cildi yumuşatır.
For these effects, 2-3 teaspoons of the dried plant are taken and heated to boiling point in 1 glass of water. Then, the heat is reduced and the heating is continued for another 15-20 minutes. The concentrated decoction prepared in this way is applied externally.
Kuşotu ayrıca yara iyileştiricidir: Yara, kesik ve çıbanların tedavisinde kullanılır. Bunun için toplanan taze bitki ezilerek yara lapası hazırlanır. Bu lapa şikâyetli yerlere dıştan uygulanır.
