General Information

Ulcer

Ulcers, which are considered to be closely related to stress and eating habits, have been focused on in recent years as being caused by a microbe (bacteria) called Helicobacter pylori and that this disease can be treated with antibiotic treatment. However, studies and results have shown that this bacteria is very common in our environment and even if treated, it re-enters the body in a very short time. As a result, it is accepted that this bacteria alone is not the cause of ulcers.

Ulcers usually develop at the beginning of the duodenum (the first section of the small intestine), at the exit of the stomach. They develop less frequently in the stomach. In both cases, the tissues in the ulcerated area become sensitive to stomach acid. Definitive diagnosis is made by endoscopic examination (gastroscopy). Ulcers can disappear on their own and develop again. When they are active, they cause pain that disappears with eating. In addition to pain, they can also cause unpleasant complaints such as sourness and burning in the mouth.

Many drugs are used in classical treatment: antacids, drugs that coat and protect the surface, antispasmodic drugs and, most often, drugs that block the stomach's acid production.

The following suggestions can be used to aid in the treatment of patients with ulcers:

– Avoid all types of coffee, whether caffeinated or decaffeinated, and all foods containing caffeine. Do not drink alcohol or smoke.

– Avoid aspirin and similar drugs and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (those containing naproxen, diclofenac, etc.). Use acetaminophen group drugs as a pain reliever.

– Drink mint tea instead of tea.

– Even if you are advised to drink milk, definitely do not drink it, because milk increases the secretion of stomach acid.

– Eat more often but less. Be careful not to leave your stomach empty for long periods of time.

– You can drink aloe vera juice. This helps heal ulcers. However, when used in high doses, it causes diarrhea. Therefore, 1 tablespoon can be taken after each meal.

– Try to live a life free from stress and trouble
