Samsun Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Faculty of Engineering, Department of Food Engineering Head Prof. Dr. Abdulkadir Hurşit stated that yogurt strengthens the immune system thanks to its rich nutritional value, and that due to this feature, it protects the body from many diseases, from cancer, stomach and intestinal diseases to stomach, colon and small intestine cancers.
Prof. Dr. Hurşit noted that yogurt reduces cholesterol absorption, has probiotic activity, and is used in the treatment of infectious liver inflammation (hepatitis) diseases in children.
“Yogurt prevents the survival of dangerous and harmful microbes in the intestines. It facilitates digestion.
Because yogurt is the only food that is digested by the body on its own.
It has a natural antibiotic effect against tuberculosis.
It protects the digestive system from damage caused by stress, alcohol, cola and carbonated drinks.
"Some bodies cannot digest the lactose in milk due to their structure. This causes physical discomfort. Since the lactose in milk turns into lactic acid in yogurt, these people can obtain the necessary nutrients from yogurt," he said.
Prof. Dr. Hurşit emphasized that yogurt, which is also a very important food source for beauty, gives the skin a tremendous shine and stated that it helps to stay in shape due to its 61 percent fat burning feature. Prof. Dr. Hurşit said, “

Meanwhile, studies on yogurt conducted in Japan and the US have also attracted attention. The study, conducted in Japan and published in England, revealed that unsweetened yogurt eliminates bad breath and naturally prevents tartar and gum inflammation. The study found that 80 percent of those who ate one serving of yogurt per day for 6 weeks had lower levels of hydrogen sulfide, which causes bad breath, and that the ingredients in yogurt prevented these conditions.
A study conducted in the USA found that overweight people who added yogurt to their low-calorie diet and ate three meals of fat-free yogurt a day lost 22 percent more weight than those who followed a diet program without yogurt.
It was found that those who ate yogurt on their weight loss diets burned 61 percent more fat.
It was also determined that yogurt eaters burned 81 percent more fat in their abdominal areas. It was emphasized that a diet consisting of low-fat dairy products and calcium and protein is ideal for burning fat and losing weight.
