Carum carvi It is the ripe fruit of the species L. (Umbelliferae). This species is a perennial and herbaceous plant with white or pink flowers and parted leaves, up to 100 cm high. It is not cultivated in our country. It is widely grown in Europe. It is found wild in the wet meadows of Eastern Anatolia.
External appearance: 4-6 mm long, brown or bright yellowish brown colored and hairless grains. Usually divided into half fruits. Each half fruit has 5 light yellow ribs. Strong smelling and spicy flavor.
Composition: It contains fixed oil, essential oil (% 3-9), resin etc. The essential oil contains especially carvone (% 60).
Effects and usage: It has carminative, milk increasing and menstrual inducing effects. It is used as a spice in Europe.
How to use: Infusion or decoction (% 2-5), drink 2-3 glasses a day. :
