General Information

BANANA

Banana, which is generally consumed more expensively than other fruits due to its deliciousness and nutritional value, produces its fruits starting from autumn and sometimes until April, and is the exemplary plant of the Banana family. The banana plant, whose homeland is not known for sure, is grown in the warmer parts of the world and in the Mediterranean region in our country, and has 40 species and about 250 varieties. It is a perennial herbaceous plant with a large trunk and broad leaves that grows up to 1-15 m.

Its real body is bulbous and underground. The intertwined sheaths of the leaves form the “false trunk” of the banana above ground. The flower cluster emerging from the middle of the false trunk and between the leaf cluster also forms a cluster. The flowers that first appear at the bottom of this cluster are female in character. Later, male flowers appear at the top of the cluster and lean towards the ground. The fruit clusters that form as a cluster with the pollination and maturation of the female flowers are erected upwards.

These fruit bunches mature within three months and dry or are harvested by being cut by the producer. Banana fruit is eaten fresh and used in pastry, dessert and ice cream making. It is also made into liqueur.
