Other Names: Kelotu, head herb Petasites Officinalis

Botanical Information: The hat-sized leaves are slightly toothed and the undersides are covered with gray hairs. The flowers, which can range from dirty white to pale pink, open in a cluster at the very end of the stem.

Cultivation Areas: It grows along rivers, streams and forests.

Collection and Storage: The root, which has fever-reducing properties, is removed before flowering. It is cleaned and dried.

Benefits

It has an antipyretic effect.

Its tea, which helps sweating, is used for fever, difficulty breathing, gout and epilepsy.

It is also used for menstrual cramps, asthma, and headaches.

How to use – Tea: Half or one teaspoon of finely chopped plant root is put into 1 medium glass of cold water in the evening, warmed in the morning and strained. Drink 1 or 2 glasses by sipping throughout the day.

The large fresh leaves are used not only on sprains and wounds caused by walking, but also on all kinds of gangrene, malignant boils and severe wounds.

How to use – Leaf Compress: Washed fresh leaves are crushed with a rolling pin on a wooden table to make a paste, applied to the affected area and renewed every 1-2 hours.
